Kuaishou API: read the hot board, a video and its comments

To work with public Kuaishou data, take three steps: read the hot board to see what is trending, open one video by its eid to get the caption, author and engagement numbers, then read that video's comments. Every step below is a real endpoint with real parameters.

From hot board to comments in three calls

The video endpoints take the eid, not the numeric photo_id: the eid is the part of a video link www.kuaishou.com/short-video/<eid>, and a post record's extra.eid. The eid in the examples is only a placeholder: use your own. You need an API key, and a new account has 50 trial calls; once the trial calls are used, the Kuaishou endpoints are billed from your balance.

  1. Read the Kuaishou hot board

    Returns the whole main board (热榜) as it stands, about 50 words with rank, heat value and a search link. It takes no parameters and has no paging.

  2. Open one video by its eid

    video_id is the video's eid, taken from a link www.kuaishou.com/short-video/<eid> or from another record's extra.eid; the numeric photo_id is not accepted. You get the caption, author (with the numeric uid), plays, likes, comments and more. A video that does not exist or was deleted answers 404. The eid in the example is a placeholder.

  3. Read the video's comments

    Use the eid from the previous step. Omit cursor for the first page, pass back the previous page's cursor to continue, and stop when has_more is false. A video without comments answers empty. Replies under one comment come from raw.kuaishou.comment_replies.

FAQ

Where does the eid come from?

From a video link, www.kuaishou.com/short-video/<eid>, and from a post record's extra.eid (for example the records creator hot videos returns). The video endpoints do not accept the numeric photo_id.

How do I read the replies under a comment?

Use raw.kuaishou.comment_replies with the video's eid and the comment's cid (from the comments endpoint); it pages by cursor the same way. It is listed under more endpoints on this page.

How do I see a creator's hot videos?

Use raw.kuaishou.creator_hot_videos with the numeric uid, the author.uid of a post or comment record, not the eid. Results come most liked first.

How is it billed?

A new account gets 50 trial calls; after that, calls are billed from a prepaid balance, and only successful calls that return data are charged. Empty results and errors are not, and meta.charged_usd in each response says what the call cost. Each endpoint's price is in the API reference, and the plans are on the pricing page.
